Padmal Singh and his beautiful wife, Sahrda Tamang Kar
Padmal Singh and his wife, Sahrda Tamang Kar, met at a garment factory here in Nepal. He was older than her, but age didn’t matter. They fell in love and were married.
When Padmal had a stroke, life became difficult. Padmal is an Indian citizen, so he can’t collect a pension here in Nepal, and Sahrda is too young to collect a pension. It became impossible for Sahrda to work, and she feared leaving him at home just to run errands.
They found their way here, to the Senior Citizen Care Home in Pharping, Nepal, where we provide support for their food and housing. Sahrda helps around the care home to try to pay their way here, and also makes incense to sell in order to earn some income, while Padmal continues to recover from his stroke.
When we first met Padmal in 2023, he didn’t smile. He seemed to have no emotion. In late 2023, Padmal had a heart attack, and we feared the worst with his combined health crises.
In 2024, when we saw him again, he was transformed. He was walking better, becoming more independent, and he greeted our President and Founder, Alicia Jean Demetropolis, with a big smile and an enthusiastic greeting.
Sahrda is grateful for being able to stay at the elder care home in Pharping, telling us she could now go run errands without worrying about Padmal “burning the house down.” And now Padmal has a bigger family and support system around him as his recovery from both health crises continue.
We are so pleased to be able to provide a safe home for Padmal and Sahrda, and we are grateful to our donors, who continue to provide support for these two beautiful souls.
